Born in Bogota Colombia, the still young Saavedra has competed in a number of racing series prior to IndyCar. Formula BMW ADAC (2006-2007), Formula BMW USA (2006-2007), Formula BMW Pacific (2007), Austria Formula 3 Cup (2008), ATS Formel 3 Cup (2008), and Indy Lights (2009-2010, 2011). Currently Saavedra drives the No. 17 car for KV Racing Technology, but made his IndyCar debut in 2010, driving for Bryan Herta Autosport at the Indianapolis 500.
