RHR pressures Rossi into mistake for Race 2 win at Belle Isle – Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay drove an incredible race to win Race 2 at the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix at the Raceway at Belle Isle Park after the dominant Alexander Rossi locked up into the runoff late in the race from the lead. The rest of the Top 5 was Power, Jones, Dixon, and Rahal. The start of the race way delayed by 40 minutes due to the pace car crashing as the field left the pits for the parade laps. Rossi takes pole for Belle Isle Race 2 in the wet – Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi won the pole for Race 2 of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix with a lap of 1:33.3143 in wet conditions. The full Top 6 starting order will be Rossi, Wickens, Power, Jones, Dixon, and Hinchcliffe. The session was the first to use the new upgraded Firestone rain tires for the Verizon IndyCar Series. Dixon grabs Race 1 win at Belle Isle – Chip Ganassi Racing Teams’ Scott Dixon won Race 1 of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix in dominant fashion for their first win of the season. The rest of the Top 5 was Hunter-Reay, Rossi, Andretti, and Sato. Rahal and Ferrucci had big incidents in the race but have been cleared to drive on Sunday. Full results here. – INDYCAR – (6/2/2018)

Bourdais tops Practice 1 at Belle Isle – Dale Coyne Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais was fastest in Practice 1 for the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix with a lap at 1:17.8545. The rest of the Top 5 was Dixon, Rahal, Rossi, and Andretti. Binder got into the tire barriers to bring out a red flag in this incident. Scuderia Corsa “committing” to 2019 Indy 500 – RACER’s Marshall Pruett reports Scuderia Corsa will again have a car entered in the 103rd Running of the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race in 2019 after their experience in 2018 with Oriol Servia and Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. “We’re committing to the Indy 500 next year, and we’re trying to put a [full-season] program together for next year,” team owner Giacomo Mattioli told RACER. SPM promotes Anderson as Hinch’s engineer – RACER’s Marshall Pruett reports Schmidt Peterson Motorsports has replaced the departed Leena Gade in-house with Will Anderson as the race engineer for James Hinchcliffe. Anderson has served as Meyer Shank Racing’s race engineer for Jack Harvey and will remain in that role in MSR’s remaining Verizon IndyCar Series this season. ABC Indy 500 broadcast TV rating down again – Phillip Bupp for Awful Announcing reports the ABC television broadcast of the 102nd Running of the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race had a TV rating of 3.4, down from 3.6 last year, and the lowest since live flag-to-flag coverage of the race started in 1986. Power earns the win in 102nd Indy 500 – Team Penske’s Will Power won the 102nd Running of the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in a dominant performance over the second half of the race. The rest of the Top 5 was Carpenter, Dixon, Rossi, and Hunter-Reay. Stefan Wilson was forced to pit for fuel from the lead with four laps to go, giving Power the lead. Dixon and Ganassi win pit stop challenge – “Chip Ganassi Racing and Scott Dixon will look to buck recent history after winning the Indy 500 Pit Stop Challenge on Friday during Miller Lite Carb Day at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The last team and driver to win the annual pit stop competition and then capture the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil two days later were Team Penske and Helio Castroneves in 2009. Ganassi’s crew earned $50,000 from the $100,000 purse for its victory in the best-of-three final against James Hinchcliffe and the Schmidt Peterson Motorsports crew.
