Will Power’s Crew Wins Long Beach Firestone Pit Stop Performance Award
After watching Scott Dixon’s crew put together an impressive performance last race at St. Petersburg, Team Penske was not to be outdone… The No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Car (driven by Will Power) earned the Firestone Pit Stop Performance Award for the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. This earned The Verizon Penske team $10,000, which will be awarded at the next race, Barber.
We now have two Firestone Pit Stop Performance Award winners this year, Scott Dixon and Will Power’s teams… At this point we can begin to draw conclusions from the winners and their ultimate race finishing positions. Just two races into the season, the correlation between winning this award and finishing position may be even important than previously thought. This statement I’m sure will be totally obvious, but the driver who spends the least amount of time in the pits will have a greater chance of finishing well. As you can see from the table below, the Season Cumulative Average Finishing Position is now 3rd place, which after two races may not be that impressive, but if by the end of the season the average finishing position is 5th place or better, I will be extremely impressed with how intertwined these two statistics are related.
Race | Winning Team | Driver | Finishing Position | Ave. Finishing Position |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Target Chip Ganassi Racing Team | Scott Dixon | 4th | 4th |
2 | Verizon Team Penske | Will Power | 2nd | 3rd |
