Rowe becomes first Black winner of INDYCAR sanctioned event with USF2000 victory – “Myles Rowe, driving for the African American-owned Force Indy team, made history Sunday by becoming the first Black driver to win an INDYCAR-sanctioned race when he captured the second leg of the Cooper Tires USF2000 Grand Prix tripleheader Sunday, Aug. 29 at New Jersey Motorsports Park. Juncos Hollinger Racing to enter No. 77 for final three races – “Juncos Hollinger Racing announced today DYNAMOEDGE will sponsor the No. 77 NTT INDYCAR SERIES entry for the final three events of the 2021 season. Sowery ends Lights season effectively immediately – From Juncos Racing Indy Lights driver Toby Sowery: “With immediate effect Toby Sowery will end his 2021 Indy Lights season. The decision has been made after a disappointing run of results with Juncos Racing. Robin Miller dies at 71 – “Robin L. Miller, a lifelong motorsports fan who became one of the sport’s most recognized and influential media personalities, died Aug. 25 in Indianapolis. He was 71. A native of his beloved Southport, Indiana, Miller rose to prominence as an Indianapolis Star sports writer, parlaying his love of many sports into more than 50 years of communication that defined his life. Known predominantly as a writer and columnist covering the Indianapolis 500 and INDYCAR SERIES racing, Miller became a television personality first with ESPN, then SPEED and most recently NBC. Newgarden wins wild Gateway thriller – Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden won the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 at World Wide Technology Raceway for the third time in his career in a crazy race with severe championship implications as Dixon and Palou crashed early in an incident with VeeKay. Malukas sweeps Lights weekend with Race 2 win – HMD Motorsports’ David Malukas swept the Indy Lights race weekend at World Wide Technology Raceway with a victory in Race 2 Saturday night. The full Top 5 was Malukas, Kirkwood, Pedersen, Lundqvist, and DeFrancesco. The race was again completed eightlaps early due to concerns regarding excessive tire wear. Palou faces nine place grid penalty – Per INDYCAR release: “INDYCAR officials have announced a nine-position starting grid penalty for the No. 10 Chip Ganassi Racing entry for an unapproved engine change following last week’s race on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. The team was in violation of: Rule 16.2.3.2 A fifth (5th) Engine is eligible to earn Engine Manufacturer points if a Full Season Entrant has completed the Full Season Entrant Engine Mileage with its first four (4) Engines…According to the rulebook, the penalty for such a change (six-position starting grid penalty on road and street courses and nine-position starting grid penalty on ovals) comes at the series’ next event, which is the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 presented by Axalta and Valvoline on Saturday, Aug. 21 at World Wide Technology Raceway.” – INDYCAR – (8/21/2021)

Long Beach announces updated COVID-19 measures – “A new Health Order by the City of Long Beach on August 18, effective on August 19, states that attendees at all outdoor “mega events” – those with attendance of more than 10,000 people – will be required to wear facial coverings in all outdoor and indoor locations, regardless of vaccination status. INDYCAR to return to Iowa Speedway in ’22 with Hy-Vee sponsorship – “The NTT INDYCAR SERIES and Hy-Vee, a grocery chain based in the Midwest, have announced a new multiyear agreement, which returns the excitement of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES to the Iowa Speedway. INDYCAR and Hy-Vee to make announcement Thursday – Per an INDYCAR release INDYCAR and Hy-Vee are making an announcement on Thursday morning. IMS earns “certified responsible event” label for Indy 500 – “Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge, the largest single-day sporting event in the world, is now a certified responsible event by the Council for Responsible Sport (Council). This is the first time a motorsports event has achieved the distinction and marks a key milestone for one of sports’ most iconic events. Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) also announced today the venue will become among the earliest adopters of the newly released responsible sport standard that applies to the year-round activities of sport hosting organizations and venues. Power dominates to victory in Big Machine Spiked Coolers GP – Team Penske’s Will Power led 56 laps en route to his first NTT INDYCAR SERIES victory of the season in the Big Machine Spiked Coolers Grand Prix on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. Lundgaard to drive RLL No. 45 this weekend at IMS – “Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL) announced today that the team will enter a car for FIA Formula 2 Championship driver Christian Lundgaard, 20, for the Big Machine Spiked Coolers Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course on August 14. Bob Jenkins dies at 73 – “Veteran radio and television broadcaster Bob Jenkins, a former “Voice of the 500” inducted into the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame in 2019, died Aug. 9 at age 73 after a valiant fight with cancer. The voice of the Liberty, Indiana, native was heard globally over five decades on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network, serving several positions, including chief announcer from 1990 through 1998. McLaren Racing acquires 75% stake of AMSP IndyCar team – “McLaren Racing has taken the next step in its full-time return to IndyCar by announcing today that it has entered into an agreement to acquire a majority share in the Arrow McLaren SP IndyCar team. The transaction will close by the end of the year and will see McLaren Racing take a 75% share of the team. Financial terms of the deal are not being disclosed.
